4 Things to Do in Clarksville This Weekend (June 13-14)
Summer is in full swing in Clarksville, and this weekend the calendar is packed with history, art, jazz, and a family movie night under the stars. Whether you’ve lived here for years or you’re new to town and still learning your way around our neighborhoods, getting out to local events is one of the best ways to fall in love with this city. Here are four things worth leaving the house for this Saturday and Sunday.
Civil War Days at Historic Collinsville
Step back in time at Historic Collinsville’s annual Civil War Days, where military reenactors bring the 1860s to life across the pioneer settlement’s 1800s-era buildings. Saturday and Sunday you can explore period encampments, watch living history demonstrations, browse sutlers selling era goods, and grab food and drinks on site.
When: Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Historic Collinsville, 4711 Weakley Road, Clarksville
Cost: $15 for ages 13 and up, $10 for ages 3-12
This one is a favorite for families who love the rolling, rural feel of southeast Montgomery County. If wide lots and a little breathing room are on your wish list, this corner of Clarksville is worth a closer look.
Color ‘n Concrete Community Arts Celebration
Downtown Clarksville keeps getting more colorful. On Saturday, the First Street Parking Garage stairwells transform into a public gallery of 16 hand-painted murals as part of the city’s Summer Celebration of the Arts. Come watch the artists at work, browse pop-up art shops, and let the kids loose at a table stocked with coloring books, sidewalk chalk, and bubbles. Bonus: Ray’s food truck is handing out free burgers and fries to the first 25 visitors.
When: Saturday, June 13, with the garage open to foot traffic from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: First Street Parking Garage, downtown Clarksville
Cost: Free
The energy downtown right now is exactly why buyers are drawn to the historic district and nearby walkable neighborhoods. Public art, riverfront, restaurants, and the arena are all within strolling distance.
Jammin’ in June with Denny Jiosa
For a more grown-up night out, the Customs House Museum & Cultural Center hosts an evening of contemporary jazz with four-time Grammy nominee Denny Jiosa and his five-piece band. The night opens with a catered reception and drinks before the music begins, and ticket proceeds benefit the museum.
When: Saturday, June 13, reception at 6 p.m., performance at 7 p.m.
Where: Geraldine Brame Turner Auditorium, Customs House Museum & Cultural Center
Cost: $50 online
A date night like this is a great reminder that Clarksville offers culture and small-town charm in one package, the kind of lifestyle that keeps people putting down roots here.
Outdoor Movie: Zootopia 2 at Downtown Commons
Cap off Saturday with a free, family-friendly movie night. Montgomery County Parks and Recreation is screening Zootopia 2 on the big outdoor screen at Downtown Commons. Pack lawn chairs and blankets, settle in, and enjoy the show. Heads up: pets, coolers, and outside alcohol aren’t permitted.
When: Saturday, June 13, 7:30 p.m.
Where: Downtown Commons, downtown Clarksville
Cost: Free
Free community events like this are a big part of what makes raising a family in Clarksville feel so easy on the wallet, and they’re happening all summer long.
